Traditional Risk Factors for Venous Thromboembolism (VTE)
- Genetic Susceptibility (i.e., Factor V Leiden Mutation, Protein C Deficiency)
- Estrogen-Based Oral Contraception
- Obesity
- Recent Surgery or injury (within 3 months)
- Previous VTE or Family History of VTE
- Active or Recent Cancer
- Limited Mobility
- Catheter in a Large Vein
- Varicose Veins
- Recent Illness or Bedrest
- Height (i.e., shorter or taller than average)
- Pregnancy
- Increased Age
