About Us

Research And Clinical Team

The Blood Clot Research Group, led by Dr. Beth Taylor, has developed collaborations with sports clinicians associated with the Boston Athletic Association to conduct studies on marathoners in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 and 2015 marathons as well as with the Hartford Marathon Foundation at the 2013 Hartford Marathon. Through these studies our collaborative team has investigated vascular and thrombotic risk associated with strenuous endurance exercise alone and in combination with factors such as air travel, compression sock use, and statin drug therapy and have established our ability to conduct rigorous data collection in field studies.

In addition to our core team below, we have had the great fortune to work with many amazing sports medicine professionals along the way, including, but not limited to:

Pierre d’Hemecourt, MD, FACSM, Co-Medical Director, Boston Marathon
Aaron Baggish, MD, Co-Medical Director, Boston Marathon
Chris Troyanos, ATC, Boston Athletic Association
Kevin Ballard, PhD, Research Associate, Miami University
Antonio Fernandez, MD, Department of Cardiology, Hartford Hospital
Linda Pescatello, PhD, Department of Kinesiology, University of Connecticut
Beth Shluger, Hartford Marathon Foundation
William Roman, BS, Research Administration, Hartford Hospital
Brenda Foxen, RN, Department of Preventive Cardiology, Hartford Hospital
Lindsay Lorson, BS, Department of Preventive Cardiology, Hartford Hospital

We are grateful for funding support from Hartford Hospital, American College of Sports Medicine, NASA, and 2XU, LLC.
